FAYOHI's Barbecue marking the International Youth Day 2013
In commemorating the International Youth Day, some members of staff and active volunteers of FAHOYI at the Univeristy of Warwick, UK, embarked on a mission to empower the youth by using a barbecue event to increase awareness on pressing global health challenges faced by many around the world, which occur mostly in developing countries. The event ignited interest from international participants who are passionate about working towards 'healthier populations'.
Encapsulating the spirit of the Initiative, the event recieved backing from various health practioners, and students from diverse disciplines from reputable institutions in the United Kingdom including; University of Warwick, University of Birmingham, Coventry University, and Oxford Brookes University. Similarly, representatives from Nigeria and other countries such as Pakistan, China, Tanzania, Uganda, Cyprus, Thailand, India, USA, and the UK graced the event. Although the major theme of the gathering was attributed to raising awareness on health and social inequalities like reduction of health disparities, child poverty, and maternal health, some time was also dedicated to light refreshment, including a live rendition of Micheal Jackson's 'We Are The World'.
Being the first in a chain of events, the day ended on a successful note as more than 30 youths pledged to work with FAYOHI towards making a difference to the Nigerian community.
Remember, together we can change attitudes and save lives!
